How we started and what we do...
The company MACHO & CHLAPOVIČ a. s. was founded in 2010 with the intention to
use the valuable know-how and enlarge the extensive numismatic tradition of both
families. Market knowledge, collector’s experience and family history was melted into
the ability to provide sophisticated services to both wide public community of
collectors and single investors. We have an excellent knowledge and experience on
the field of financial markets, international law, portfolio management and asset
allocation into historically and collective attractive items. Based on this we can satisfy
even the most demanding private clients. With our two offices in Bratislava and
Prague we are covering the attractive region of Czechia, Slovakia, Austria and
Hungary. However, you can also find us on various interesting auctions and trade
fairs in Europe, Asia and the USA.
We are a single professional company in our region who has met the ambitious criteria to be accepted into IAPN (International Association of Professional Numismatists), which was founded in Geneva in 1951. The anti-forgery- committee within IAPN called IBSCC (International Bureau for the Suppression of Counterfeit Coins) is the only international independent authority to judge over genuineness. We are actively cooperating with it with our professional advice and in this way we do contribute to its qualified decisions.
We run our sales points with a professional back office in Bratislava and Prague. Furthermore, we run a successful internet store with numismatic goods and instruments and with gold and silver investment offers. We sell, buy out and accept in commission various coins, medals, banknotes, orders and decorations.
Our goal is to organize one or two strong international numismatic auctions every year. The participation of domestic and international clients is possible either in person, or online over the internet from all over the world. We keep some of worldwide auction records, as far as coins and medals from the territories of Czech and Slovak republic are concerned. In the way of how we take care of proper and correct description of quality and flaws of our items, uncompromisingly and attentively judge over their genuineness in combination with the highest ethical standards we leave our competition far behind. We are the regional leader in methodology, technology and complex genuineness item expertise. We are the only ones with unlimited, life- long guarantee for the genuineness of everything we sell. We are, logically, the first choice to your considerations where to sell your top-quality numismatic material.
Research and publication activities
We are focused mainly on surveying and describing the mint of coins and medals on the territory of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire in its historical context of political and economic coherences in the contemporary Europe. We view the regions of Czechia and Slovakia on one hand as producers of precious and fine metals of notable economic importance and on the other as historical territories with a precious artistic creative production of world importance. On a professional field we do cover European strikes from the age of Celts through Early and Late Middle Ages up to the modern production.
We offer our consultancy and advice to our clients and the wide numismatic community for all their investment and collecting activities to come over with a strong professional support. We do our best to assess both genuineness and origin (history) of the numismatic material, objectively evaluate it and work on a detailed non-public database of single numismatic items and forgeries in cooperation with other authorities (National Bank of Slovakia, Czech National Bank, National Museum of Prague, Slovak National Museum, Museum of Coins and Medals in Kremnica, Nemzeti Múzeum Budapest, Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien etc… ) and domestic and international scientists. We will gladly help you to estimate the value of single items and compact collections, too. We can help you to construct, extend, profile and protect your items or sell them at the best possible conditions.
Elizej is a co-founder and managing partner of the company. His fascination with coins and money began in his early childhood. He was brought to systematic collection by his grandfather, who was the founder of the family's collecting tradition. He deals professionally and expertly with a wide period from Celtic coins from our territories to modern mintings of the 20th century. Renaissance and Baroque medals and trial engravings are his specialty. Previous experience in financial market analysis, trading and portfolio management has resulted in his position as a strategist and market risk manager in the Macho & Chlapovič Group.
Rado's friendship with Elo and a mutual passion for numismatics was the impetus for the founding of the company. His grandfather and passionate collector Gejza Chlapovič worked as a technical deputy in the state-owned company Mincovňa Kremnica. And so, as a child, Rado came into contact with collectors. He started collecting at the age of 15. And not only coins, but also antiques, for which he operated a restoration workshop and shop in Kremnica. He specializes in Czechoslovak coins and their test mintings, as well as the Hungarian and Transylvania mintings, minted in the years 1526 -1792. By building a collection, you also build yourself, says Rado.
Elizej worked in several banks and worked in finance and banking for almost 20 years. His interest in finance led him to alternative investment and, through his father and with the support of his son, to numismatics. He is mainly fascinated by the oldest engravings from the Celtic period. He admires how they managed to ingeniously transform their artistic ideas into gold and silver metal in the period before Christ. Elizej is one of the founding members of the company. He specializes in financial and economic management and precious metals trading.
Managing Director Bratislava
Andrej has been with the company since its inception. He participated in its planning, establishing itself on the market, expanding in Slovakia and abroad, and gradually building a business and action house into today's form of an internationally recognized company. He has a foreign trade degree. He holds the position of director of the Bratislava branch, of which he is the guarantor and manages the preparation of auction catalogs. It is the auction guarantor for medieval Hungarian coins from the period of elected kings and coins of the Arpad dynasty. He is also interested in Hungarian coins from the Habsburg rule. In addition to numismatics, he also likes to deal with new technologies and his knowledge in this area enables him to provide the technological background of the company. Bratislava
Legal & Compliance
Dušan studied law and is also an active lawyer. Passion to learn about history, collecting coins, banknotes, stamps, art, etc. he has accompanied him since childhood, partly thanks to his classmate Elizej. Gradually, this passion materialized into a purposeful collection of rare historical coins from our territory. Within the Macho & Chlapovič group, he oversees corporate governance, general legal advice and his favorite topic is the creation of optimal tools for investing in numismatics and precious metals.
Managing Director Prague
Honza stood at the birth of the Prague branch and currently ensures its smooth operation. It will be fully devoted to you in the same way when you bring only an ordinary small coin, as when you bring a unique piece. He indulged in numismatics at an early age, when his grandfather collected coins and stamps and he observed him on visits while working with coins and stamps. He gradually gained valuable advice and experience. It taught him the patience and modesty he still has today. He specializes in coins of the Austrian Empire, the popular First Republic and contemporary modern creation. He is in charge of the annual processing of our Catalog of Czechoslovak, Czech and Slovak coins. He is no stranger to older Habsburg engravings.
Radim is a professional guarantor for our Prague branch and also an auction guarantor for Habsburg Bohemian and Austrian engravings between 1657 and 1848, including church and family engravings. He is also a guarantor for paper money across all periods, but especially Czechoslovakia. He has been actively involved in coins and banknotes continuously since 2006. He studied law, graduating as a doctor of law, and also at the Rudolfinum Academy of Antiques in Prague. He is collectively engaged in Hungarian ancestral mintings and medals with anti-Turkish themes, in the case of paper money, Czechoslovak and Slovak banknotes. He is the author of two professional book publications on Czechoslovak, Czech and Slovak banknotes and several professional articles.
Tomas is an auction guarantor for Celtic, Greek and Roman coins, Czech medieval coins and Habsburg coins until 1657, with the exception of Transylvanian and Hungarian mintings, and also a guarantor for foreign coins until the middle of the 17th century. He became acquainted with numismatics thanks to his grandfather, who, as a pensioner, devoted himself to collecting coins. During his grandson's frequent visits, he introduced him to his small collection and led him to read numismatic literature. Since then, Tomáš has been working on numismatics, even at the research level. He lectures regularly at domestic and foreign conferences and publishes professional articles. He is considered one of the leading experts in Central European Celtic coinage and Czech coinage of the 16th and early 17th centuries.
Back Office Manager
Božka is currently in charge of the economic agenda, preparation of documents for accounting and other administrative tasks associated with the operation of the company. Her first contacts with numismatics were only in the store of the Bratislava branch. She immediately liked numismatics and gradually got to know all its areas. Banknotes from Czechoslovakia and coronation medals gained the most attention. For many years she worked as a front office manager and participated in the preparation of documents for auctions and auction organizations. Practically all our coins, medals and banknotes passed through her hands. He is currently passing on the experience he has gained to his new colleague Zuzka, who will welcome you in the Bratislava store.
Front Office Manager
Anička is the first person you come into contact with in our Prague branch. She has worked with people all her professional life, so her position as front office manager fits her perfectly. She met numismatics for the first time at our indoor auctions. At first only as a silent observer, she later became actively involved in the smooth running of the whole event. From the beginning, she liked the yellow Czechoslovak wheels, St. Wenceslas ducats the most, but gradually she began to discover the beauty of numismatics. At present, she is most fascinated by the Jáchymov medals.
Front Office Manager
Zuzka studied political science and diplomacy. Maybe that's why she quickly adopted a pro-client approach in previous jobs. A pleasant performance, which you will meet every time you visit the Bratislava branch, is natural for her. Whether you are looking for an investment, a gift, you are a collector or just a curious, he will always give you good advice and find a solution to your every question. She was brought to the coins by chance, and as is the case in life, it was love at first sight. Medals and tokens minted on the occasions of the coronation of Hungarian kings and queens especially appealed to her.
Renátka accompanies you with events and news of our company as well as interesting facts from the numismatic and investment environment. She has a degree in financial management, so the world of finance and investment is close to her. Her interest in history and numismatics was awakened in her husband Andrej, during whom she watched the origin and gradual expansion of society. From history, she likes the period of the Celts and Slavs, their way of life, economy, jewelry and especially the customs and traditions that they worshiped. In addition to Celtic coins, she is also interested in mintings from the time of the Habsburg rule, especially from the time of Maria Theresa.
